Yamper’s Arrival Kit

I am so excited; I haven’t been this excited in a very long time. To start, three weekends ago, I put down my deposit for a corgi puppy. He was cute when he was three weeks now, now even cuter at four weeks. I’ve decided to share Yamper’s arrival kit with you all in case you have a puppy or a dog that you spoil too.

I can pick him up May 1st, I’m so excited. I can’t wait for his arrival; although he is 4.5 hours away in the mountains, which I love! He’s worth it with his cute furry face.

I’ve decided on the name Yamper, which for those who know is a Corgi Pokemon. I didn’t watch Pokemon until my boyfriend started the series and after I saw the little guy a few episodes in I think it’s a perfect name. Corgi’s are said to be very energetic and spunky dogs, which Yamper the Pokemon is an “electric” type so I think it fits perfectly. I’m sure he’ll have another nickname but that’ll be on his adaption papers.

My boyfriend seems to think I’m overdoing it and going overboard, but hey, everyone gets ready for a baby, right? He also told me to stop calling him my baby that he is a puppy. Well, I don’t have kids, so he is going to be my baby.

I’ve already picked up everything (Thanks, Petsmart!) and ordered everything else (Thanks, Amazon!) that he’ll need.

I’ve read so many puppy articles both in a search and on Pinterest that I’ve read everything on puppies there is to find on the internet. I know what to do with him for the first 48 hours I bring him home, and he misses his mom and littermates; I have mapped out a schedule, and I’ve got a few training posts pinned as he’ll be a well-behaved gentleman.

The kennel owner sends me weekly photos, which was this week’s photo out of the ten sent. This one is my favorite because you can see his face. He was either biting the box, fingers or was blurry from moving so much in the others. I call them his baby pictures, hehe. Yes, ok, I might be a little obsessed.

Look how cute he is, though! The first picture is of him at only three weeks; the second is him at four weeks. He’s starting to look like a puppy now.

I wanted to share a few things I picked out for him; I’ll do a total review on the products once he gets here and has time to play with them, so that post should happen in May. Everything I picked out was for a puppy, except for his cate – that is for medium-sized dogs as he will be. This is only, so I don’t have to buy another one when he’s older and bigger. His breeder sent me a video (which I pulled this image from) Sunday night. He’s growing so much each week, I love seeing his progress.

I wanted to cover all of the aspects we’d be dealing with, like food, crate, toys, and treats. I ordered little Yamper a “Pup Mom Crate,” (click the link and save 20% off!) too, though, which I cant wait to see what comes inside. I wasn’t thinking about him being a puppy when I ordered it, so everything is coming for a medium dog, which he’ll grow into and that. It means I won’t have to buy a lot more toys.

For Training

His crate is roomy, and I’ve got dividers to put up, so he feels a little safer in a smaller space, but I’ll move them out as he gets bigger. I’ve decided to use a gentle leader on him; I want to use a harness when we’re walking through. For some reason, it just makes me feel better knowing he’s not pulling his nose off of choking himself with a regular collar. They say corgis are highly food motivated (hey, me too!), so I looked around to find him some training treats. I’ve never owned a puppy, so anything makes it easier for me to train them better.

Play Time

I wanted him to have a variety of toys, so he could figure out what he likes. I picked out a few that I thought would do the trick as they are all for puppies, and most of them are for teething too. A tug toy with a duckA stuffless squirrel with knots, an angry-looking raccoon which is a teething toy, a puppy Kong toy, of course, I got 4 of these as I can stuff them and freeze them so they’ll be ready when he’s overly active or fussy. Sweet potato spread for sealing the Kong, and puppy recipe Kong treats to fill the Kong before sealing.

Feeding time

I researched everything there is to explore the best dog food I could buy for the little pup. I went with FROMM since this is what he’s been eating. I’d thought about switching him to Purina Pro Plan for puppies though, I’ve heard good reviews but I don’t know yet. I’ll ask his vet for advice. He’s set for his second round of shots on the 17th.

I’ve decided I’ll be making his and Raylle (his older brother) their dog treats. This will come after a while, but I decided to go ahead and get the doggy molds and cookie cutters I’d need to in case I decided to do it sooner.

Here are the recipes I’ve decided to give a try first. I wanted to do something frown since spring and summer are here in full swinging, bringing upwards of 85-degree weather already.

You may think I’ve went a little overboard because I do too as well as everyone around ,e. I just want to make sure the little guy feels at home and has exactly what he needs (and I need) to make his transition easy. If you have any tips or tricks, please leave them in the comments. Since I’ve never had a puppy, I need all the help I can get!
